Don't you LOVE fall? It is my absolute favorite time of year. There's something wonderful about the crispness in the air, the fall colors, the cinnamon-spice smells, and the carmel-y, yummy foods! It's wonderful. So wonderful that I started crafting. I KNOW! It's seriously a MAGICAL time of year.
In true fall fashion, I decided the entrance to my house could use some sprucing up. Our landscaping is nice but there are no flowers or containers. Just a lot of green grass and green shrubs. I am not complaining - with the lack of rain we have had and our enormous water bill, the green is beautiful. But we have a green house too, so that’s a lot of green. We had no fall colors, pumpkins, or even hay bales. And we had no wreath. The only thing adorning our walkway is a lonely little gnome in a NY Yankees uniform. Not fall-like at all.
So I did what I always do. I spent hours on Pinterest, pinning and pinning and pinning and then went to bed, doing nothing. For me, Pinterest seems to be a whole lot of idea-making and not a lot of doing. LOL.
But the next day I went to my sister-in-law's for a get-together and she had a wreath on her door that I fell in love with. And it was one of the Pinterest pins. See Kim’s a do-er not a dreamer. So, I did what I always do again, I copied the concept and added my own flair. But this time I did what I never do, I went to Pinterest and actually DID something! Thank you so much, Kim! You are my crafting inspiration!
Not too shabby, but very shabby-chic! All the decór is pinned onto the wreath so it can be changed easily with each season and holiday. Since putting my new creation on Facebook and Pinterest (yes, a fairly new concept for me – pinning, not repinning), I have had many requests for how to. So here's the how-to for this DIY Wreath. May it bring much autumn wonderment to your home! Happy Fall Y’all!
Materials:
wreath & hanger
wood letter (or house numbers)
silk flowers of choice
clothes pins
paint
Tools:
small drill
glue gun
paint brush
1) Paint letter and allow to dry. I used a soft beige acrylic paint and then antiqued a dark brown gloss over the top. There's raffia shown in the before photo. I decided not to use it. I was going to wrap the letter in the raffia for a hay-like look but after 15 minutes of wrapping and only one small serif complete, I decided painting would be less time-consuming. Key to crafting for me is definitely baby steps. :)
2) Drill a hole through one side of clothes pin (about a 1/4" from clamping mechanism). Repeat for number of flowers you want on wreath. I'm very tool-worthy so, take care on this step as drilling can be dangerous. Get a friend or hubby to help if power tools are not your forté.
3) Pop the head of flowers off stems. There's something a little devious and fun about this part.
4) Dab glue in the hole of clothes pin and insert knob of flower head in hole of pin. Turn clothes pin flower-side-down until glue dries.
5) Glue a clothes pin to back of letter and allow to dry.
6) Assemble by clipping on flowers and letter. Place items on a diagonal to create balance - letter in one corner and flowers in opposite corner.
Now hang it up and voila - instant fall!
